Our Truck - Sold

Our Gray Ram 3500 the day we brought it home.We have to start this page with the disclaimer that we chose what we feel was the best truck for us. We understand that most people love their trucks like they love their favorite Nascar driver. There are many debates about diesel vs gasoline, half-ton vs three-quarter vs one ton trucks, 2wd vs 4x4 etc... A lot of this we questioned and researched before we decided on our Ram. I encourage anyone who is considering a large tow vehicle to join several message boards and research as much as you can. Having a little too much truck is better then not enough. Feel free to contact us if you have any specific questions about our truck.

2012 Ram 3500

After driving every available used and new truck we could find we figured we should get a used one to save some money. We searched near and far for a used truck with our desired features and capabilities, but were having trouble finding anything that would fit our needs. On a whim, we went by the Ram dealer the last week of 2011 and ended up with a great deal on a new 2012 3500. We couldn't be happier and it's a great looking truck too. We did quite a bit of research, mostly on payload, towing capacity, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). We knew we'd have some considerable loads which is why we ended up with a Heavy Duty truck. We were considering a 3500 van but there weren't any available 4x4 choices and up fitting one would be 10-15K, ouch. Truck with ARE Topper at Ochlockonee State Park Florida

We also like the idea of having a truck bed so that we can store dirtier and/or stinkier items separate from the cab. We plan on using the truck bed as a makeshift sleeping area from time to time so we added an A.R.E. camper top. The only other thing we have considered adding to the truck is an on-board air compressor, at this time we aren't sure which one. A winch would be cool but we can't justify it, yet. The A.R.E topper has a Yakima rack so we can move the Kayaks up there when needed. Our goal is to cram our outdoor sports gear into the bed to keep it protected from the elements most of the time. Since we have a travel trailer we don't have the gigantic basement storage fifth wheels have so the truck bed will have to do.
